The March 2017 meeting was called to order by President Kim Neibauer.
There were 26 members present .
Treasurer’s Report: Ken Hurt reported $2219.76 in checking, $25.01 in savings.
Minutes: of the February meeting were read and approved, also Treasurer’s Report.
First-time Guests: Gary Morris and grandson Tristan; Larry Eggers; and Terry Moore.
Old Business: AirVenture2017: several members expressed our need to gather all information, by next meeting, in regards to logistics such as: number of adults and youths traveling; number and type of vehicles & airplanes; all costs involved; food and accommodations; equipment; etc. Kim Neibauer and Sterling Hurst will compose an email to members for final, hard commitments. A motion was presented and voted affirmative that EAA800 will reserve and pay for 2 AirVenture campsites.
New Business: Eddie Clements reported for HAWK Aviators that Piper Cherokee N9606W, with its repaired wing skin panel, repaired fuel tank, new bottom cowl, several fiberglas repairs will be flown to WestStar Aviation in about 2 weeks for its new paint. Cherokee ‘06W’ may be flying in 6 weeks. Eddie also announced and presented the beautiful, newly donated FireFly (hot air) balloon basket; FAA Balloon Pilot requirements and privileges; HAWK’s continuing search for equipment and 6 ft by 8 ft trailer; a possible sailplane donation; and a possible 32 ft. bus-type RV donation.
New Items: Bryan Miller is enrolled in the CMU Associate Degree program of Applied Science in Aviation, which includes Instrument Pilot, Commercial Pilot and CFI certifications. He expects to complete the program in 2018. Guest Terry Moore offered to demonstrate to the HAWK ground school the Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Lane Jochums is offering his Protech PT-2 for sale. This project, 90% completed, includes the new Franklin 125 hp engine, new adjustable propeller, and all materials except engine mount. The PT-2 is a two place, side by side, tailwheel airplane. Price: $12,000. Troy Ball is a LSA CFI and offers to instruct members and also fly Young Eagles. Jerry Friedman has purchased a 1967 Mooney M20 Executive and all equipment in the hanger from an estate sale. He is well equipped to redo the entire avionics and instrument panel.
Meeting adjourned for hot chili-hamburgers-brats lunch and airplane talk at 11:40 am.
