EAA 800 Meeting Minutes
14 May 2016

President Kim Neibauer called our meeting to order about 10:30 AM in Ladd’s hangar at Mack Mesa Airport.
There were 26 members present.

Minutes of the April meeting were approved as read with a motion and second by Roger Olander and Sterling Hurst. Treasurer’s report: Ken reported the current figures: $1733.67 in checking and $25.01 in savings. His report was approved as given with a motion and second by Bryan Miller and Nancy Hurst.

Old Business: Bryan answered a question that had come in since the last meeting. How do Hawk kids get an EAA#? Answer: Parents have to register their child online at: https://www.eaa.org/en/eaa/aviation-education-and-resources/eaa-youth-education/eaa-young-eagles-program/eaa-young-eagles-information-for-parents The link above explains some of the questions and answers for young eagles.

HAWK Aviators update: Pat Wehling taxied the Dakota Hawk down to the meeting location for show & tell. The donated prop is mounted, the cowling is not. Master Procurement Officer Eddie Clement has arranged payment for passes for Hawk Aviators attending Oshkosh in exchange for Eddie tethering his balloon at West Star’s open house on June 10 th ! We will also display the Dakota Hawk and Young Eagle info at that event. Eddie spoke about the difficulty of obtaining insurance for a group.

New Business: EAA 800 will sell three meals on Saturday as a fundraiser at the Mack Mesa Fat Tire Jamboree Fly- In on May 20-21. Ladd has 37 planes registered and expects 50+ people per meal. Hurts and Hursts volunteered to be there at 7 AM to begin serving. Other volunteers would be appreciated!

President Kim Neibauer is planning tours of the GJ tower for the kids. The tours can be weekdays between 10 and 4 and with 3 - 4 kids at a time.

Our speaker, Randy Bresnik, served two tours in Viet Nam flying choppers and 40 years flying for the L.A. Sheriff's Dept. He gave us an interesting retrospective of his career and the wide variety of flying he had done. Interesting sidelights were that his father, Albert Bresnik, a Hollywood photographer, was Amelia Earhart’s personal photographer from 1932 to her final flight. And, he is the father of Astronaut Randy Bresnik as well as Ladd’s father-in- law!

The meeting was adjourned at 11:55 for a lunch of burgers and brats and hangar talk.

Our next meeting will be back on the third Saturday, June 18. Program details to come!
