EAA 800 Meeting Minutes
21 Feb 2009

The meeting was called to order in Dag's hanger at 10:30 AM by the President Jay Scheevel.

The minutes from the January meeting were read and approved.

The Treasurer reported that there was $1057.11 in our account after paying the EAA Chapter Dues and Insurance ($227). Any memebers who have not yet paid their 2009 dues should do so as soon as possible.

Jay announced that we still have EAA Calendars available for $7.00 a piece.

Steve Lindemann discussed having a Young Eagles Day towards the end of March or the first part of April. As always, pilots and ground crew will be needed.

Jim Grady encouraged all pilots, especially aircraft owners, to make sure their log books as well as other requirements (medicals, BFRs, etc) are up to date before Young Eagles events.

Steve will check with EAA to see if LSA's can be used in Young Eagles flights.

Jay passed out Young Eagle Supporter pins and certificates to Norm McClintock, Don Coleman and Lane and Syndi Jochums.

Jay introduced several guests:

The Chapter Library was discussed now that it was "open" for business. Most of the books were donated by Marc Howard (retired airline pilot). The books will be kept in a locked cabinet in Dag's hanger. Members can sign out books, as well as donate books that are aviation related. Thanks go to Nancy Hearst for cataloging the books and setting up the Library.

Jay reminded any member who would like to be notified by email of Chapter events, to make sure they have provided their email address on the sign up sheet.

Phil Smith discussed the upcoming proposed rules by the TSA. These are due to go into effect in April this year. These rules are primarily aimed at aircraft operations for aircraft weighing over 12,500 pounds, but the effect of these rules on all aircraft owners and operators is far reaching. The EAA website has a full description and the text of these rules. It also has specific instructions for commenting on these rules to the TSA as well as writing to Congressmen and Senators. Jim Grady provided a draft letter that he is sending as well as envelopes addressed to the Colorado Senators and our Congressman (Salazar). The deadline for comments is 27 February 2009. All members are encouraged to send in their comments as soon as possible. If these rules go into effect as written, it will change our way of flying forever.

The meeting was adjourned for hamburgers and hot dogs and to view Phil and Rex Smith's Glasair.
